The F&P provides various periodically paid retirement benefits and lump sum benefits for its membership. F&P benefits include service retirement, disability retirement, death benefits for eligible beneficiaries, and termination benefits for members who leave employment prior to retirement eligibility.

For members who attain the service requirements, a Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) and a Deferred Retirement Option Plan 2 (DROP 2) is available. DROP and DROP 2 participation is voluntary. DROP and DROP 2 provides enhanced retirement benefits which members can elect in the form of lump sum distributions or increased periodically paid retirement benefits. Certain disability and death benefit recipients are excluded from receiving DROP and DROP 2 benefits.

In the event of any discrepancy, the plan provisions, legal documents, and Board policies embodied in Article 22 of the Baltimore City Code will govern.
